What If Today Were the Day That Time Ran Out?

The Bible teaches us very clearly that no man knows the day or hour that will be his last. Proverbs 27:1 says, "Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth." It is like a great alarm clock that is set, but we do not have the privilege of knowing what hour it is set for. At any moment, it could ring and our life could be over. If you know where you are going when life's clock stops, that thought can be comforting. If not, it can be terrifying. Please read on to discover what the Bible says about knowing for sure that when you die you will live in heaven. I encourage you to note that it is not what our church states, but what the Bible clearly teaches. Churches change, but the Word of God remains the same and is the final authority for life.
The first problem that we face is the fact that we are sinners. The word sin means " to miss the mark." Anything we do that is not exactly what God has commanded is missing this mark. Many people believe they are good people, but the Apostle Paul stated it this way in Romans 3:10-12, "As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable there is none that doeth good, no, not one." Compared to the standard of God's perfection, every one of us comes short. Because of this sin problem, we cannot enter into heaven. Revelation 21:8 explains, "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and ALL LIARS shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." You may not have done all of those things, but every one of us would be considered a liar. The Bible clearly teaches that we cannot get to heaven on our own. However, Jesus Christ made a way when there seemed to be no way.
The second thing we need to understand is that Christ died and rose again for our salvation. He is God's perfect gift to us to enable us to be saved. Romans 6:23 states, "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." The Bible also explains to us how Christ is God's gift to us in Romans 5:6-9,"For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him." The Bible shows us that we do not deserve the sacrifice of Christ, but He died for us anyway. Christ died for you, knowing every sin you have ever done and ever will do. He loves you so much that He gave His life to keep you from death in hell! There is nothing that you have done that will keep you from heaven if you will trust Christ in your heart. But there is also nothing that you can do to get you to heaven if you reject Christ. John 3:16-18 states, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." The question is, Will you accept Christ as your only Saviour? You cannot save yourself, and nothing you do can get you to heaven.
If you want to accept Christ as your Saviour, the Bible promises that it is not hard. Romans 10:8-13 states, "But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." You have to realize that it is only by faith in Jesus Christ that you can be saved. You must believe that you are a sinner deserving of hell, but that Jesus died and rose again for you. Then, you must simply call on Jesus and ask Him to save you. It is not a prayer that saves you, but it IS following God's Word by confessing and believing. I encourage you to pray something like this, "Lord, I know I am a sinner and have done many things I should not. I know now, based on Your Word, that I cannot get to heaven through anything I can do. I also realize that Jesus Christ died for me and rose again. I know He paid the price for my sins. Lord, please come into my heart and save me. Please forgive me of my sins and allow me to go to heaven when I die. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
